PBA: Onuaku, Bolts overpower slumping Gin Kings
The Bolts bounced back and improved to 4-2 in the team standings while the Gin Kings dropped to 1-4 after losing back-to-back games.

Justin Brownlee posts a triple-double in his first game back for Ginebra.

Didn't matter.

Meralco took down the Gin Kings Friday in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup, scoring a huge 93-82 win at the MOA Arena.

The Bolts bounced back and improved to 4-2 in the team standings while the Gin Kings dropped to 1-4 after losing back-to-back games.

"I told the players before the game that to win this game, we have to control the defensive boards," head coach Norman Black said.

"I thought Arinze stepped up and pulled a lot of rebounds tonight," he added.

Meralco actually lost the total rebounding battle, 46-47, but won the defensive side of it, 37-34.

Import Arinze Onuaku also went beast mode, finishing with 24 points and 23 rebounds in Meralco's win.

Chris Newsome backed him up with 22 points while Jared Dillinger (13 points), Anjo Caram (12 points), and Baser Amer (10 points), also finished in double figures.

It was a chippy game between the two rivals with a fair share of mini skirmishes featuring coach Tim Cone vs. Cliff Hodge and Caram vs. Tenorio.

Nothing went out of hand though.

What went out of hand was Meralco's lead in the third period. The Bolts opened up a 17-point lead late, 73-56, setting the tone in the fourth.

Ginebra never got close in the final 12 minutes.

Justin Brownlee scored 20 points to go along with 16 rebounds and 12 assists but it was not enough for the Gin Kings.

The scores:

Meralco 93 - Onuaku 24, Newsome 22, Dillinger 13, Caram 12, De Ocampo 5, Hodge 4, Canaleta 0, Hugnatan 0.

Ginebra 82 - Brownlee 20, Aguilar 13, Thompson 12, Slaughter 8, Mercado 7, Tenorio 6, Devance 6, Caguioa 5, Caperal 5, Cruz 0.

Quarters: 28-22, 48-42, 73-58, 93-82
