"If you don't perform, japorms."
That's the mantra huge LeBron James fan Ryan Araña subscribed to, copying the King's pre-game fashion statement before Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
Araña brought flavor to the pre-game fashion game on his own, posting his high jinks on Instagram moments before their game versus Alaska at the Big Dome.
However, unlike James' historic performance of 51 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, Araña laid an egg in 2:14 of game time, missing his only field goal attempt. But if the veteran could find a similarity between him and his idol, it's the dubious honor of exiting the game with a loss.
Cleveland lost Game 1 in overtime, 124-114, after some controversial and talked-about moments at the end of regulation, while Globalport blew a 15-point lead against the Alaska Aces and lost, 109-103.

Braving the sweltering Metro Manila weather just to give support to the Cavs, whom he said will win in seven games like in 2016, Araña hopes that the fashion statement would be a start of the pre-game fashion scene, much like their NBA counterparts, where it has gained a cult following.
"Minsan, may mga players na nakapangbahay lang pumupunta ng game. So siguro respect na lang din na magpunta tayo ng game na well-dressed para magandang tingnan sa ibang fans at kagalang-galang din pagdating sa game."
His fashion game also elicited laughter and jokes from his teammates and coaches, but his plans, he says are ulimately no laughing matter. As for wearing matching suits just like the Cavs in the previous rounds, the 35-year old had this to say.
"Tignan natin kung ano ang mangyayari. Game naman ang teammates ko eh. Parang ako pa naging pasimuno. When we’re inside the court, seryoso kaming lahat kasi yung panalo ang gusto naming ibigay sa team."
