Never say die.
Call it cliché, gasgas, or any other word, but it has been the calling card for the franchise ever since the days of Sonny Jaworski, and the phrase that had always been associated with the team ever since.
At 11th place with a 1-5 record, Ginebra needs to bank on it again, and veteran guard LA Tenorio says they need to rely on it once again, starting with their practice for their game against the NLEX Road Warriors in Legaspi on Saturday.
"...[T]he margin for error now is really minimal na lang kasi basically every game for us is a do-or-die game. Hopefully, yung Never Say Die spirit namin, lumabas starting next game," says Tenorio, whose right eyebrow was busted wide open from a wayward elbow.
Playing only their second game with returning import Justin Brownlee, the dimunitive floor general says that they can only stand a chance at a playoff spot if they play their remaining five games with a chip on their shoulder.
"Ayun yung challenge sa amin as a team and yun lang yung brighter side na nakikita ko and room for improvement for everyone na kumpleto ulit kami maglalaro. We'll see, we'll see kung anong mga adjustments yung gagawin namin for the next five games."
Hope is never far away for Ginebra, and the former Blue Eagle says that perfection should be paramount for them.
"We still have a chance, I think. May chance pa naman ata kami. Yun nga, the margin for error is very minimal for us."
Despite the loss, positives were seen by the point guard, however noted that improvements are still needed to be made for a run.
"It's not automatic, like I've said before, it's not automatic na when Justin comes it, automatic mananalo kaagad kami, hindi naman ganoon. It's like the start of our conference started Friday, it just happened na natalo kami nitong two games na ito."
"We had our chances, especially this game against San Miguel. We know that we can be more better defensively and more so offensively. Ayun yung kailangan namin i-improve pa going into these playoff games."
