"Like I told y'all before, may the best man win. At the end of the day we won, he's still my brother you know what I'm saying?" --- Renaldo Balkman on Justin Brownlee.
After taking round 1 of the highly-anticipated B and B showdown, Renaldo Balkman still has nothing but love for Justin Brownlee.
The two former Alab Pilipinas teammates faced each other in the PBA for the first time Sunday as Balkman's San Miguel Beermen went head-to-head with Brownlee's Brgy. Ginebra Gin Kings.
And after 53 minutes of play, Balkman got the win as the defending champs pulled through in overtime.
Renaldo also got the better of Brownlee personally, scoring 27 points on top of 11 rebounds. Brownlee finished with 18 points and 14 boards.
"I just told him good game," Balkman said when asked he said something to Brownlee after the win.
"Like I told y'all before, may the best man win. At the end of the day we won, he's still my brother you know what I'm saying?" he added.
While the hype heading Sunday was obviously on Balkman vs. Brownlee, Renaldo didn't see it that way.
The Puerto Rican import saw the game as San Miguel vs. Ginebra and he was focused and getting the Beermen the win more than winning a personal battle against Brownlee.
"Man, I mean, it's a great matchup. It was two guys playing hard, two guys must-win. And I came out with a win. It's not just me and Brownlee, it's a team game," he said.
"A lot of people were saying me vs. him, I didn't see it like that. I'm a team player, I'll get my team involved. Same thing with him, I know he thinks the same way. If you don't play team basketball you'll lose," Balkman added.
