Head coach Bong Ramos and Blackwater are finally on the board in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup
Bong Ramos, at long last, has his first win in his return to the PBA.
Courtesy of a game-winning slam jam from American reinforcement Henry Walker, Ramos and Blackwater are now on the board in the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup.
With that, Ramos, who established a winning legacy as a head coach in Indonesia, was finally able to go to his first post-win interview in the ongoing conference. “Nakangiti nga ako ngayon e diba,” he candidly told reporters on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Ramos called the shots for Air 21 and Barako Bull in the mid-‘00s before taking over for Leo Isaac after his 0-3 start in the ongoing conference.
Banking on big games from Poy Erram and Mike Digregorio as well as clutch makes from Walker, the Elite edged out Magnolia, 86-84.
And in doing so, they have proven their mentor right. “I just kept on telling them to just continue to pound the rock and mabibiyak din yan, makukuha rin natin yan,” Ramos said.
That, Blackwater did and now, they have moved one step forward in their new era. “Ang hirap din kasi when I came in, it was really a big adjustment sa mga players. Marami akong binagong maliliit na bagay na hindi nila dati ginagawa,” their head coach said.
He then continued, “At least, nagre-respond na sila ngayon unti-unti.”
While their record just stands at 1-7, the Elite are nothing but glad to have some much-needed momentum moving forward. “At least, the team is improving little by little. Every game, we have positive achievements,” Ramos shared.
He then continued, “Itong (conference), wala na ‘to sa amin e ‘di ba? Pero at least, may positive na nangyayari sa team.”
