PBA: A new breath of life for ROS, says Raymond Almazan
Raymond Almazan had submitted a career-high of 26 points, tallying 21 in the first half in ROS' 104-94 win.

After a myriad of issues during their Philippine Cup campaign, it seems that a new lease on life has dawned upon the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Standing on top of the league standings with a 7-1 record, with the team's most recent win Friday evening against the Blackwater Elite, Raymond Almazan had submitted a career-high of 26 points, tallying 21 in the first half in ROS' 104-94 win.

Almazan, who was also mired in controversy in the Philippine Cup, had already turned in a new leaf and re-committed himself to the cause.

"Kasi last conference, sobrang dami talagang issues, struggle, injuries, problema about sa team. Sinet aside ko na yun. Basta parang bagong conference, bagong buhay. Trinatrabaho ko naman sa practice eh, pinapakita ko sa game so ayun nagpe-pay out namain tsaka syempre, pasalamat kay God," he said after the game.

The forward/center meanwhile downplayed his new career-high, and credited the effort of hulking import Reggie Johnson on offense, who had become an intimidating paint presence and a willing passer to every teammate.

While praising Johnson, Almazan could not help in giving parting shots to their former imports.

"Masarap kasama si Reggie sa ilalim. He’s not the type of player na kapag hindi mo nabibigyan ng bola, magagalit. Then, tsaka ang maganda sa kanya, kahit nalalamangan kami kasi meron kaming mga previous import na kapag hindi napapasahan tapos nalalamangan, parang nakikita mo medyo tinatamad."

Bolstered by the presence of Johnson, Almazan has breathed a sigh of relief as his life in the key has gotten much easier, with the defense not that focused on him anymore.

Now perched on top of the standings, the Elasto Painters did not go through an easy road to get their fourth straight win. They had clawed back from an 11-point deficit, 77-66, to retake the lead. riding on a furious 25-6 run in the fourth.

With animosity behind him, Almazan had praised coach Caloy Garcia for giving them the utmost trust in dire situations, just like that had happened in the game.

"Iba yung confidence na binibigay sa amin ni coach Caloy ngayon. Nagi-start lahat sa practice eh. Medyo nag-struggle nung 3rd quarter, medyo nagrelax , nalamangan pa."

"Pero ang mahalaga, kung paano kami nagbounce back. Iyon naman lagi sinasabi ni Coach Caloy. Wag lang lagi magrerelax."
