Calvin Abueva is suspended.
Alaska has suspended its star forward for missing team activities for more than a week. In a statement by owner Wilfred Uytengsu, the Aces is putting the Beast on the shelf for the meantime.
The suspension is indefinite and effective immediately.
Read the full statement below:
"The Alaska Aces have placed Calvin Abueva on indefinite suspension following his more than one week absence from practice and failing to advise the coaching staff and management of his whereabouts. While we understand Calvin may be going through some troubling personal issues, it does not obviate his responsibility to his team.
The suspension is effective immediately. Alaska, however, will allow Abueva to play for Gilas if Coach Chot Reyes chooses to use him in the line up.
Wilfred Steven Uytengsu"
After the PBA All-Star break, Abueva never reported to Alaska and missed the Aces' win last week over Blackwater.
At the time, head coach Alex Compton said that Abueva was dealing with "personal issues."
Calvin also missed time in the Philippine Cup due to similar reasons.
Alaska is currently doing well in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup, sporting a 5-1 record just behind Rain or Shine (7-1) and TNT (6-1).
