PBA: With 3rd straight loss, Phoenix' playoff hopes in peril
For sharpshooter Matthew Wright, responsibility falls on the team's shoulders for letting their opponents hang that long, giving them a wide-open opportunity to seize the win.

It has been a difficult string of games for the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

With a 115-100 loss against the rising Columbian Dyip, the Fuel Masters have taken a hard hit in their playoff race with their third straight defeat.

With a 3-5 record, Phoenix needs to win against the best of the league in their remaining three games, namely Rain or Shine, Alaska, and Globalport. And coach Louie Alas knows it will a difficult climb in order to have a crack at a top-eight finish.

Coming from an overtime loss against the Meralco Bolts in their previous outing, Alas knows that his team is exhausted and said that he gave the team a break. However, it seems the rest did not help them, for they were just outmatched by a hungry Dyip team sitting at seventh place with a 4-5 slate.

"Guys, with our fatigue, we can't beat them in a shootout. We have to make some stop everytime. It didn't happen," the former Letran mentor said after the game.

For sharpshooter Matthew Wright, responsibility falls on the team's shoulders for letting their opponents hang that long, giving them a wide-open opportunity to seize the win.

"We let them linger too long. We gave them confidence. These are kinds of teams that you should... you got to step on their throats early but we didn't do that. We just couldn't get a stop down the stretch."

The Fil-Canadian sophomore clarified that they did not become too complacent against their foes since they both carried a similar record heading to the matchup.

Asked if this will be a similar journey for Phoenix, who finished ninth, outside looking in, Wright had this to say.

"Every conference is a different journey. We just got to win the next 3 games. That's all."
