PBA: Elorde after big shot vs. SMB: "Basta nasa loob ka, may chance ka makabawi"
With the game winding down, Elorde hit a booming triple in the final 48 seconds that broke a 92-all tie.
Nico Elorde only scored six points for Globalport in the Batang Pier's big win over defending champion San Miguel in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup but those six points were crucial in helping decide the final outcome of the game.
Elorde scored his first basket in Globalport's pivotal 8-0 run in the fourth quarter as his floater finally allowed the Batang Pier to tie things up at 86-all with about five minutes to go.
Then, with the game winding down, Elorde hit a booming triple in the final 48 seconds that broke a 92-all tie.
For good measure, he also scored a free throw in the last nine seconds to seal the final tally.
"Siguro sobrang tiwala lang si coach Pido, nagpapasalamat ako dun. Kasi buong game medyo struggle ako, di ko makuha timing eh. Pero nandun pa rin ako sa loob, so kailangan ready lang. Yun dumating yung chance," Elorde said.
"Basta nasa loob ka, may chance ka makabawi," he added.
With Stanley Pringle as the lead guard, Elorde evolved as the second guard in the backcourt for Globalport ever since the team traded Terrence Romeo away.
And despite not being a huge scorer like Terrence, Elorde has proven that he can hit also hit the big shots for Globalport.
Stanley will find him so he just has to be ready.
"Titira ko talaga yun," Elorde said.
"Everyday ko naman ginagawa yun. Sabi ni Stan ready lang so pagka-kickout niya, tira," he added.
