PBA: Gutsy Globalport cools off champion Beermen
The Batang Pier lost import Malcolm White with eight minutes to go due to technical fouls but the PBA's lone neon green team stood their ground and ended up snapping a two-game skid.

San Miguel's hot streak has been momentarily cooled off.

Globaport put up a gutsy stand in the fourth quarter, beating defending champion San Miguel, 98-94, Wednesday in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the MOA Arena.

The Batang Pier lost import Malcolm White with eight minutes to go due to technical fouls but the PBA's lone neon green team stood their ground and ended up snapping a two-game skid.

Globalport improved to an even 4-4 while dropping the Beermen to 3-4 in the standings.

Tied at 92, Stanley Pringle found Nico Elorde for a booming go-ahead triple with 48 seconds to go.

And after the Beermen cut the deficit to one, Pringle stole an inbounds pass intended for Alex Cabagnot, a play that led to a free Mo Tautuaa layup with 19 seconds left, giving the Batang Pier a 97-94 lead.

"Sa wakas nakabalik din dito," head coach Pido Jarencio said as he took his seat in the press room for his post-game talk. "Matagal-tagal din ako nawala dito."

"Anyway, credit to the players at the same time si Nico Elorde making that three-point shot. Di maganda laro niya the whole game pero he hit the big shot grabe," he added.

Globalport trailed by as many as 12 points but the Batang Pier used a pivotal 8-0 run in the fourth to finaly take over, 88-86.

Pringle then sparked the two clutch plays down the stretch that allowed Globalport to pull through.

Despite his ejection, White still finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Batang Pier while Pringle added 22 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.

For the Beermen, it was Renaldo Balkman that led the way with 33 points and 13 rebounds.
