Heading to the game at a 1-8 record, the Blackwater Elite's fire-like chances for the playoffs have long been extinguished.
Heading to the game with a 1-8 record, the Blackwater Elite's fire-like chances for the playoffs have long been extinguished.
Their playoff chances may never have fully materialized since that fire may have only been a small spark.
However, the 27-point loss against the Meralco Bolts Friday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena left a bitter taste in the mouth of coach Bong Ramos.
The mentor did not mince words about his team's lack of effort in the game, which for him showed up to the game like smoke. It just came and went.
"Sabi ko parang nakuntento sa last games tapos biglang okay na tayo. We don’t have an effort parang di kami pumunta sa game, yun lang masasabi ko wala talaga," Ramos said after a lengthy talk with his team after the loss.
The coach did clarify that even though he knew Meralco is one of the best teams in the conference, he lamented his team's lack of effort on both ends of the floor, especially in terms of hustle.
"Walang energy, walang effort. Penalty yung kalaban, ayaw umatake. Siguro start ng game, first six, seven shots namin, outside shots. Walang gusto umatake. Nasan yung attack mode namin?"
For a team that had endured so much losing, things may not be as bright for them, thus bringing their bleak outlook to the hardwood.
However, Ramos asks some effort from his team during the 19-day layoff before their penultimate game against San Miguel even if they don't come out with a win.
"But to me, I will not stop teaching them. I will not stop giving them inputs, training them to learn. Yun lang. Basta itutuloy ko lang ginagawa ko."
