Anjo Caram however credited the play of former Best Import Arinze Onuaku for his court vision and passing skills, which gave numerous looks on offense.
Anjo Caram came to the game, preparing himself for the usual off-the-bench role.
However, this time, against the Blackwater Elite, he scored eight points in the deciding second quarter, which saw the Meralco Bolts overwhelm the Elite, 35-15, to pull away by 29 at the conclusion of the first half, 59-30.
The gritty Caram contributed to the offense when it mattered most; the turning point of the game.
However, he downplayed his accomplishments in the game, and pointed out the overall team effort that clinched them their sixth win, and a playoff berth.
"Bonus na lang yung scoring ko. And siguro nae-execute lang namin yung gameplan ni coach kaso defensive team talaga kami. I think top two defensive team kami in the league. Yun talaga nagpapapanalo samin," the guard said after the game.
The dimunitive floor general also credited the play of former Best Import Arinze Onuaku for his court vision and passing skills, which gave numerous looks on offense.
"He makes us better. Ginagawa ko lang yung role ko sa team which is to play defense and knock down open shots. And as a point guard role ko rin to control the game."
Now that Meralco has secured a spot in the Commissioner's Cup playoff race with a 6-1 record, the Bolts' job in the eliminations are still not done, Caram clarified, for they want to bring the right kind of momentum heading to the playoffs.
"Going into the playoffs we want to enter the stretch in a winning note eh. Kasi shempre we want to finish in one of the top two spots para magkaroon kami ng twice-to-beat."
"Sabi nga ni Coach Norman we control our own destiny. Malaki yung chance namin basta imaintain lang namin yung defense namin and yung gameplan namin sundin lang namin."
