Meralco, streak stoppers.

The Bolts put an end to Alaska's hot streak Sunday in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup, scoring a big 89-74 victory at the Big Dome.

Meralco snapped the Aces' seven-game winning while extending its own run to four games. The win also allowed the Bolts to force a tie with Alaska for second place in the mid-season joust with identical 7-2 marks, just behind Rain or Shine (8-1).

"Well, we went into this game today, knowing it's gonna be tough," head coach Norman Black said.

"And, we just wanted to come out on the better end of it by playing good defense, because that's what's been keeping us in games anyway. So our defense was exceptional tonight, to be able to hold down the Alaska team. In addition to that, we had really good, balanced scoring on the offensive end, a lot of guys contributed offensively so we had good balance," he added.

The game sure was tough as the Bolts had to scrap their way to take a 41-40 lead at the break.

However, Meralco pulled away in the third, outscoring the Aces, 32-17, to take a 16-point lead into the fourth.

The Bolts stretched that lead to as high as 19 late, 84-65, as Alaska never recovered in the second half.

In terms of balance, six Bolts scored in double figures led by Chris Newsome with 18 points.

Baser Amer and Jared Dillinger added 17 each while import Arinze Onuaku was good for 14 points and 23 rebounds.

For Alaska, it was Antonio Campbell that led the way with 25 points while Vic Manuel continued his stretch of scoring 20 points or more by dropping 22 in the loss.
