PBA: Playing well is Meralco's focus, not top-2 spot

"If we don't win we can go down as quickly as we went up, so we have to continue to play well and play good basketball. That's the most important thing," --- Meralco coach Norman Black.
The race for the top-2 spots in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup is getting interesting.
After Meralco beat Alaska Sunday, the Bolts have tied the Aces for no. 2 with identical 7-2 records.
The Bolts and the Aces are a full game ahead of no. 4 TNT (6-3) and are one game back from no. 1 Rain or Shine (8-1).
With Sunday's victory, against Alaska no less, head coach Norman Black says that Meralco can now think of going for that twice-to-beat bonus in the playoffs.
"It was a critical game for us, if we wanted to try to get the twice-to-beat advantage," Black said.
"Now that we're able to beat Alaska, at least now we can start to focus on that," he added.
Still, coach Norman knows that the road to the top-2 is still dangerous.
For one, the Bolts' remaining schedule will be against no. 1 Rain or Shine and no. 4 TNT.
Those games should decide who actually ends up with an incentive in the opening round of the playoffs.
"We're not there yet, I mean we still have two more games to play against Talk 'N Text and Rain or Shine. Those are the two teams that are either up with us or ahead of us," Black said.
"So we still control our own fate, we have to win. If we don't win we can go down as quickly as we went up, so we have to continue to play well and play good basketball. That's the most important thing," he added.
