PBA: Ginebra stays hot, takes early 1-0 lead vs. rival Bolts
Since the elimination round, Ginebra has now won six straight games and is on the verge of making yet another semifinals appearance.

Brgy. Ginebra continues to roll in the 2018 PBA Commissioner' Cup.

The Gin Kings took an early 1-0 lead over Meralco Monday, scoring an 88-81 victory in Game 1 of their best-of-3 quarterfinals series at the Big Dome.

Since the elimination round, Ginebra has now won six straight games and is on the verge of making yet another semifinals appearance.

"Meralco has been a great defensive team all conference, and they turned this game into a defensive struggle. We had a really hard time finding a rhythm against their defense in the first half," head coach Tim Cone said.

"We found a little bit of it in the third quarter, and we're able to get back and get ahead, and somehow carry it through," he added.

It was definitely a grind for the Gin Kings as they fell behind by 10 points early in the third period.

However, with Justin Brownlee leading the charge, Ginebra managed to turn the tide and took a five-point spread into the fourth.

It typical Ginebra-Meralco fashion, the game was decided in the final minute as a final booming triple from Brownlee put the game out of reach, 87-79.

Brownlee led Ginebra with 25 points, 17 in the second half, to go along with nine rebounds and six assists. Joe Devance added 14 points.

For the Bolts, Baser Amer paced the team with 15 markers. Game 2 is set for Wednesday also at the Big Dome.
