- Ian Sanggalang
The Magnolia Hotshots’ 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup conference came to end, Tuesday evening at the Araneta Coliseum after falling to the Alaska Aces, 89-78 in the quarterfinals.
Unfortunately for the Hotshots, they don’t have the luxury of looking forward to a bounce-back game two, as Alaska enjoyed a twice-to-beat advantage.
Now, all that Magnolia can do is move on and look to the next conference.
“Well, ganun naman talaga eh, we gave our best, naglaro kami ng maayos, pero talo kami. Talo kami, siguro move on kami coming into the next conference na lang.” said Hotshots big man Ian Sangalang.
Sanggalang, who was on just his third game back from injury, finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
With a couple of weeks to go before the start of a brand new Governor’s Cup, Sangalang and the Hotshots hope to be able to prepare well, and that includes finally finding an import that will start and finish the conference.
Sanggalang said.
Throughout the Commissioner’s Cup, Magnolia fielded four imports, with former Best Import Wayne Chism playing the final three games of the conference.
Sangalang added.
It was a sentiment echoed by Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero, who credited the Hotshots’ rocky conference to import instabilty leading to the inability to build chemistry.
“Malaking factor yung hindi kami maka-settle down sa import eh. So, yung chemistry hindi namin mabuo-buo. At the same time, the injuries also. But yun nga, that’s not an excuse.” said Victolero after the game.
“Overall, okay naman but we’re looking forward doon sa Governor’s Cup. Victorlero added.
As for the next conference, Coach Chito says that they already have some names in mind with regards to reinforcements.
“Right now, wala pa pero meron na kaming tinitingan na list [three imports], kaya lang hindi pa pwedeng sabihin. Basta meron na kaming mga tinitingnan.
