PBA: Yap on upcoming semis: "Masarap talunin ang Ginebra"
"So, nasabi ko na ata to before, masarap talunin ang Ginebra dahil marami magagalit sayo. Ayun. Basta ano lang kami, ready lang kami. For me masayang series to, I'm sure maraming tao masisiyahan," --- James Yap.
As the long-time face of the Purefoods franchise, James Yap was part of a lot of classic Manila Clasico matchups.
In the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals, his first with Rain or Shine, Yap is set to meet the Gin Kings again as the no. 1 Elasto Painters take on Ginebra in a best-of-5 series.
Some memories suddenly came rushing back for James.
"Syempre kilala natin Ginebra, kalaban mo diyan anim. Kasama ang fans," Yap said after scoring 27 points against Globalport Thursday to tow ROS to the semis.
"So, nasabi ko na ata to before, masarap talunin ang Ginebra dahil marami magagalit sayo. Ayun. Basta ano lang kami, ready lang kami. For me masayang series to, I'm sure maraming tao masisiyahan," he added.
Aside from Ginebra, another key factor in this upcoming series hits Yap close to his heart.
Of course, the Gin Kings are coached by Tim Cone, the same guy who helped Yap win a Grand Slam back in their days with the Purefoods franchise.
James is looking forward to meeting his old mentor.
"Si coach Tim, magaling din yan eh. Kilalang-kilala ko si coach Tim, pagdating ng playoffs magaling yan. Magaling mag-adjust, so kailangan maging ready kami. Excited ako," he said.
"First time ko to sa semis dito sa Rain or Shine kaya excited ako, masaya. Kahit papaano di ba?" Yap added.
Rain or Shine and Ginebra start their semis clash Sunday at the Big Dome.
