ANTIPOLO, RIZAL -- Have no fear, because Arwind and Vic are here?
The two opponents may be at war now, but their hearts have agreed on one thing: suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas.
Commissioner Cup semis opponents Arwind Santos and Vic Manuel have put their names into the proverbial hat of possible Gilas replacements during the second window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifers as 10 different players have been suspended by the world's basketball governing body for a different number of games.
The San Miguel forward, who had last represented the Philippines with Powerade Team Pilipinas back in 2009, is very open to the possbility of suiting up again for flag and country.
He also relished at the possibility of playing with San Miguel teammates June Mar Fajardo, a current Gilas pool member, and Marcio Lassiter, a member of the first batch of Gilas players.
"Okay lang naman ako. Wala namang problema. Lalo na't kasama ko sina Marcio, sina June Mar. Okay sa akin. At saka para sa ano natin. Mga nawala natin. Siyempre, sino pa maglalaro sa atin? Kung kailangan, sige. Nandoon lang naman ako," the 37-year old Santos said.
Meanwhile, for Vic Manuel, the conference's revelation, having 'Pilipinas' emblazoned across his jersey has always been a dream for him much like any basketball player, and with it, the probablity of making it has increased as Alaska head honcho Dickie Bachmann has provided his blessings for him to join the squad if called upon.
"Kung mabibigyan ng chance, bakit hindi? Siyempre malaking bagay yon. Siyempre ako rin dream ko rin makapaglaro para sa bansa. Siyempre, ayun, gusto ko rin makatulong sa kanila."
