Itís gonna be a show Ė Brownlee on matchup with Balkman
Man, just a couple of months ago, me and him, was like Batman and Robin -- Justin Brownlee on Finals matchup with former teammate Renaldo Balkman

From being Alab-Pilipinas’ dynamic duo, Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman will be going at each other’s throats when Barangay Ginebra challenges defending champion San Miguel Beer for the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup title.

Brownlee braces for a tough grind when he and the Gin Kings battle the star-studded Beermen led by Balkman in the best-of-seven title series starting Friday.

“Balkman, seeing his talent and his skillset, what he can do for them, he's probably one of the best imports to play in this league as well,” said Brownlee, who had 12 points and 17 rebounds in Ginebra’s Finals seat-clinching 96-94 Game 4 win over Rain or Shine in the best-of-five semifinals on Monday.

“I know its gonna be tough, it’s gonna be exciting especially for the fans, just gotta be ready for Friday,” added Brownlee.

Brownlee and Balkman played together during the 2018 ASEAN Basketball League. The duo helped Alab-Pilipinas capture the crown at the expense of Mono Vampire-Thailand in a thrilling five-game series.

“Man, just a couple of months ago, me and him, was like Batman and Robin,” Brownlee said. “But... Like I said, its gonna be exciting for the fans, it's gonna be a treat for them, and hopefully, like one of his favorite quotes, it's gonna be a show. I hope it will be just that.”

Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone expects fireworks when these two imports collide.

“Well, I'm sure in the beginning, there's gonna be a little giggles and laughs between the two of them, maybe a few high fives, privately,” said Cone. “But once the series gets going, I tell you, those guys, they're so competitive, the two of them.”

“They're gonna be mortal enemies out there by the time it's done and good,” he added. “They're former teammates, but I think they're really gonna go at each other.”

One could just imagine what would be the first conversation between these friends who will try to carry their respective teams in the Finals.

“I don't know how the first few minutes is gonna be. I'll probably text him later, I don't know how will I text him but I'll just congratulate him and tell him give it his all and I will do the same,” said Brownlee.
