For Balkman, none of the individual matchups matter. For him, the most important one of all is the obvious one and that's San Miguel vs. Ginebra.
The 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals will have its share of intriguing matchups.
At the top of course is the highly-anticipated clash between June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter at the center spot.
After that, imports Renaldo Balkman and Justin Brownlee will square off as the former champion teammates now dispute another title.
But for Balkman, none of those matchups matter. For him, the most important one of all is the obvious one and that's San Miguel vs. Ginebra.
"There's no I in team," Balkman said.
"We gotta play as a team, I gotta play with my team, with my teammates. We gotta play team basketball," he added.
It doesn't mean that Balkman is dimissing the individual matchups though.
But for the upcoming Finals, the team that plays better as the unit should ultimately score the championship. That's what counts in the end anyway.
"There's no one-on-one out there. May the best man win. And whoever plays team basketball and come out there and play together and plays great defense thats who will win the championship," Balkman said.
"At the end of the day, win, lose, or draw, whoever wins we'll still gonna be friends, brothers -- whatever you're gonna call 'em -- on and off the court. But I know it's gonna be a dogfight out there when we go in between those four lines," he added.
