PBA: Some things have to give in SMB-Ginebra Finals
San Miguel vs. Ginebra in the Finals. Get excited.

Normally, a San Miguel-Ginebra finals wouldn't entice people that much.

People would argue it's boring.

But not this latest one though.

The 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals featuring the Beermen and the Gin Kings promises to be a classic, with numerous subplots and intriguing matchups enough for more than seven games.

Here are some of them:

LEO MAGIC

The Beermen have never lost a best-of-7 series since head coach Leo Austria took over, and that includes the Finals of course.

San Miguel is a perfect six out of six in the Austria era in the Finals and the Beermen are looking for a seventh crown in the last 11 conferences.

"It's nice to back here [Finals] again and again and again," Austria said.

"I think this series will be very interesting," he added.

However, in the four times San Miguel was eliminated in the last 10 conferences, the Beermen got the boot courtesy of Ginebra but both of those came in the Governors' Cup.

20 AND COUNTING FOR THE GOAT

Tim Cone has an incredible 20 PBA championships.

The only entity that has more are the San Miguel Beermen with 25 titles.

20 is a nice even number for coach Tim but you can bet that he wants that 21st to extend his lead in the all-time list of coaches with the most titles.

Coach Tim has also argued that these Beermen might be the greatest team of them all. That alone makes this Finals epic.

"It's a real honor to be playing SMB in the Finals," Cone said.

"You can't pick a bigger challenge. I think they're one of the greatest, if not the greatest team to play in the PBA. Our guys are gonna embrace it, we’re gonna go after it, and I think it’s going to be a tremendous series," he added.

Perhaps the greatest coach ever against the greatest team? 7 games please.

CLASH OF THE TITANS

June Mar Fajardo vs. Greg Slaughter in the PBA Finals. Enough said.

B&B IN THE FINALS AGAIN

Renaldo Balkman and Justin Brownlee are brothers for life.

Just a couple of months ago, they combined to help Alab Pilipinas win the ABL title. Now, they're on opposite sides with a PBA title on the line.

This should be THE matchup in these Finals and the one who can win this duel will most likely lead his team to the championship.

"He's my brother for life but for right now, he's an opponent," Brownlee said on Balkman.

B&B in the Finals will be a good show.

Game 1 of the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals will be on Friday at the Big Dome.
