PBA: San Miguel needs to pass the Ginebra test again
In 2018, as the upgraded Beermen go for another crack at a Grand Slam, it's the Gin Kings that stand in the way again.

San Miguel has dominated the PBA for a better part of three years.

However, since 2016, one team has repeatedly foiled the Beermen's chances at gaining true immortality.

That team is Ginebra.

In 2016 on their way to a first title in eight years. the Gin Kings stopped the Beermen in the semifinals of the Governors' Cup. A year later, Ginebra did it again, ending San Miguel's Grand Slam bid in emphatic fashion in the quarterfinals.

In 2018, as the upgraded Beermen go for another crack at a Grand Slam, it's the Gin Kings that stand in the way again.

The Commissioner's Cup Finals is currently tied a two games each after both teams traded blowout wins for the first four games.

A crucial Game 5 will be played Sunday at the Big Dome and San Miguel head coach Leo Austria couldn't help but feel a little bit worried.

"I think next game it will be a different ball game. I’m a little bit worried because… It’s a best-of-three, I think this will be on a crowd, ano. And they will be having a sixth man, which is the crowd," Austria said.

We don't for sure how different Game 5 will be, it might just turn to yet another blowout even though this series is way overdue for a close game.

What's sure though is that the Big Dome will be packed on a Sunday to watch San Miguel and Ginebra break a 2-2 tie in the Finals.

Despite the circumstances that obviously favor the Gin Kings now, Austria is banking on his super team that dominated the PBA for the better part of three years.

"I hope my team will realize what the stakes are in the last three games," he said.

"Our team has a chance to go on and dominate the league, but right now a lot are talking about our team being a superteam, a strong team. But, you can see it now eh. Ginebra is also a strong team," Austria added.
