June Mar Fajardo and San Miguel head into the break between two conferences looking for much-needed rest
June Mar Fajardo was the only one left fighting as San Miguel fell to Ginebra on Wednesday.
With the Gin Kings running away starting in the third quarter, Fajardo did his all to power the Beermen, scoring 16 of his 29 points in the second half as well as totaling 15 rebounds.
When all of it wasn’t enough, of course, the Best of Player of the Conference felt down. “Syempre, nakakalungkot kasi talo kami sa championship. ‘Di mo naman maipapanalo ang lahat, pero andun yung chances e,” he told reporters post-game.
He then continued, “Sayang. Bawi na lang next conference saka marami pa naman kaming basketball na ilalaro e.”
Asked if the Finals loss has only made San Miguel more determined, though, Fajardo opted to redirect his answer. “Sa ngayon, gusto ko munang magpahinga. Gusto ko munang mag-recover at ‘di ko muna iisipin yung next conference,” he said.
He then continued, “Kailangan muna naming magpahinga. Tsaka na namin iisipin yung next conference after ng bakasyon namin.”
After all, the Beermen have been in the Finals so many times in the last four years – winning six championships and finishing as runner-up once. “Siyempre, nakakapagod din. Yung ibang tao nag-eexpect na lagi kaming magcha-champion ‘di ba so dagdag pressure sa amin,” the four-time MVP said.
He then continued, “Mahirap din kasi na target ka ng ibang teams. ‘Di kami pwede maging kampante kasi hindi porket San Miguel ang kalaban ng ibang team e magro-roll over na sila e. Mas gaganahan pa nga sila maglaro pag kalaban kami.”
And so, Fajardo knows full well there is much to work on for all of San Miguel. “’Di kami pwedeng maging stagnant. Kailangan every conference, itaas din namin ang game namin,” he shared.
He then continued, “Siguro, wakeup call para sa amin ‘to. Sa ngayon, tanggapin namin yung pagkatalo tapos next conference, susubukan naming bumawi sa Finals.”
