50 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 blocks for El Destructor.
El Destructor strikes again.
Eugene Phelps broke the 50-point barrier again, leading Phoenix to a close 113-107 win over Columbian in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup Wednesday at the Big Dome.
The Fuel Masters have the Beast in action but it was El Destructor that stole the show. Phelps dropped a strong 50 points on 62 percent shooting on top of 17 rebounds and eight blocks as Phoenix got its first win in the season-ending joust.
Phoenix was on fire right out of the gate, leading by as many as 18 in the first, 28-10, after a 15-0 run.
However, the Dyip would make it a game in the second half, scoring 37 points in the third to keep it close until the fourth quarter. It took the combined efforts of Phelps and Calvin Abueva in the end game to keep Columbian at bay and avoid a monumental collapse.
"Defensively wala pa kaming toughness," head coach Louie Alas said.
"Good thing we got a huge game from Eugene, then Calvin being Calvin. That's why pinilit namin makuha si Calvin, extra body, extra energy," he added.
Abueva came off the bench in his first game for Phoenix and had himself a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double. He also had three blocks, two in the final minute.
For Columbian, Jerramy King scored 27 points and import Akeem Wright added another 25 but it wasn't enough for the win. The Dyip fell to 0-2 in the Governors' Cup.
