PBA: Macau Super 8 helped boost Blackwater's confidence
After an early elimination from the Commissioner's Cup, where they finished with a woeful 1-10 record, Blackwater has been building up for the Governors' Cup, playing a tournament in Indonesia and competing in the Super 8 in Macau as part of their training.

All that extra work in the offseason has paid off for Blackwater, at least for the first game of the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.

The Elite beat TNT for the first time ever Friday at the MOA Arena, scoring a 104-98 overtime win to start their campaign in the season-ending conference.

After an early elimination from the Commissioner's Cup, where they finished with a woeful 1-10 record, Blackwater has been building up for the Governors' Cup, playing a tournament in Indonesia and competing in the Super 8 in Macau as part of their training.

The Elite won the tournament in Indonesia and they finished with a 2-1 record in Macau, missing the semifinals by one basket due to the quotient system.

The team is seeing a return in that investment early in the Governors' Cup.

"Hindi nag-bakasyon yung mga players nag-sacrifice na ‘sige laro tayo and build natin ‘yung sistema ni coach Bong,’" guard Allein Maliksi said in the win.

"Tapos doon sa next na sinalihan din namin medyo mas competitive naman doon sa Macau, yun medyo maganda rin ang nilaro ng iba nagkaron ng confidence and Si Henry [Walker] napasok na rin sa sistema ni coach Bong so very happy siya kaya tears of joy and proud siya sa mga players na nag-step up," he added.

Maliksi had himself a game against TNT, finishing with 28 points, nine in overtime, to help the Elite secure the win.

"Nahulog lang, napunta lang (sa amin ‘yung opportunity)," he said.

Ultimately though, Blackwater's chemistry is clicking right now and hopefully, it leads to a bounceback performance this conference.

"Chemistry isa rin na big factor na nanalo kami dito. Before meydo hindi maganda ang decision-making ng bawat isa namin," Maliksi said.

"Kasi nakapag-laro kami ng mas mataas ang confidence and nag-translate dito sa first game and sana ma-continue pa sa mga susunod na games," he added.
