Greg Slaughter is still unsure if he will attend the practice or not, but is very eager to join the team to be fielded against Iran and/or Qatar.
Seven years removed from his final stint with the Philippine national men's basketball team, Greg Slaughter is very much ready for a call-up for Gilas Pilipinas.
The Barangay Ginebra slotman, who bannered Sinag Pilipinas in their gold-medal finish at the 2011 South East Asian Games, was also one of the pioneering members of Gilas Pilipinas.
With the Yeng Guiao-led practice for the continuation of the second window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers starting on Monday, Slaughter is still unsure if he will attend the practice or not, but is very eager to join the team to be fielded against Iran and/or Qatar.
"I haven't heard anything. So I'm just waiting for a call. I've been waiting for a few years now," the center said.
Slaughter added that he is unsure whether he is eligible or not, but either way, he will join practice once invited.
"Like I said, I've been waiting for a while to play again. And, if that opportunity is there, I'd love to play. Hopefully, my eligibility's okay, which I thought should be but you know, we'll see. They know all that. I'm just here to play."
Once he joins the team, the University of Visayas and Ateneo product says he'll give much-needed heft, size, and the most important trait of all, puso.
"I've always wanted to really play and the theme of the team is Puso so I got to give all my heart to play for that team again."
