For Jeric Fortuna, it just happened to be right timing in missing the game, for he immediately got a chance to play for his former coach.
UST fans must be gushing with nostalgia right now.
Jeric Fortuna put his pilot training on hold for now, as he suited up and made his season debut for NorthPort Batang Pier, and former college coach Pido Jarencio, over a year-and-a-half from his last pro basketball stint with Alab Pilipinas back in 2017.
The former Growling Tiger logged just two points, but grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists in 21 minutes of action.
"Masaya, kasi siyempre nakaka-miss ang basketball. Pero not in game shape, medyo kinapos noong second half," the guard said of his debut.
Initially, Fortuna had no plans of making a comeback, until one day, he had an itch for hoops and went to the Batang Pier's practice.
When Jarencio brought up the plays, it felt like old times for Fortuna as he said it was just the same plays he ran in college.
For Fortuna, it just happened to be right timing in missing the game, for he immediately got a chance to play for his former coach.
"Wala naman akong ine-expect. Wala rin naman silang pinangako sa akin. Medyo ano, kulang sa players tas na-injure si Elorde bigla. Yun. Na-lineup ako bigla. Salamat sa mga coaches na nabigyan ako ng opportunity."
