Blackwater came back from 18-points down to keep its prefect record intact.
Blackwater moved up to a share of the lead after adding more woes to struggling NorthPort, 113-111, Wednesday in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome.
Down by eight points heading into the fourth period, the Elite held the Batang Pier scoreless for three minutes to take the driver’s seat before staving off Northport’s comeback attempt to preserve their perfect record to 3-0 tied with two-time defending champion Barangay Ginebra at the top spot.
Henry Walker led the Elite with 24 points and 15 rebounds, Michael Digregorio and JP Erram scored 19 each while Mac Belo had 13 markers.
Blackwater went down by as much as 18 points in the second quarter, 53-35, before completing their comeback in the last five minutes of the match.
"It’s a hard-earned win. It’s a test of character for the team. They really want to get the third win tonight, " said Elite coach Bong Ramos.
Blackwater made a 7-0 run to turn a 97-99 deficit to 104-99 lead as the Batang Pier suffered a three-minute dryspell.
Protecting a 108-105 lead, Nard Pinto, who finished with eight points and 13 assists, buried a dagger three with 31 seconds left but Rashad Woods answered with a triple. The Batang Pier forced Digrogorio to step on the sideline while taking the ball down.
Blackwater dodged the bullet in the next NorthPort possession as Woods, Sean Anthony and Mo Tautuaa missed their three-point attempts before Digregorio sank his two charities with a second left to seal the win.
Nico Elorde drilled a buzzer-beating three for the final count.
NorthPort dropped its fifth straight loss in as many games despite the 31-point, 14-rebound effort of Woods. Stanley Pringle posted 18 points while Anthony and Elorde finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Batang Pier.
