Blackwater point guard Nard Pinto made his teammates look good.
It was his conscious effort to do so.
The playmaker drilled a crucial three with 31 seconds left in the Elite’s thrilling 113-111 win over NorthPort but it was Pinto’s career-high assists that opened the door for Blackwater’s third straight win Wednesday in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Pinto tallied 13 assists on top of his eight points, seven boards and a couple of steals for the unscathed Elite.
Pinto’s playmaking helped Blackwater hurdle an 18-point deficit in the second quarter.
He also played a huge role in the Elite’s huge rally in the fourth period.
Blackwater made a 7-0 run to turn a 97-99 deficit to 104-99 lead as the Batang Pier suffered a three-minute dry spell.
Protecting a 108-105 lead, Pinto buried a dagger three with 31 seconds left to add more breathing room for the Elite.
His shot came after a string of missed foul shots and layup attempt.
“’Yun na nga eh. Na-miss ko ‘yung two free throws ko eh.
So ayun, buti nalang na-shoot, nakabawi ako,” he said.
Now with renewed confidence and momentum on their side, Pinto and the rest of the Elite are ready for its showdown with co-leader and unbeaten defending champion Barangay Ginebra on Friday.
May chance kami manalo dito sa Ginebra,” he said.
