Blackwater captured its fourth straight win in as many outings at the expense of Barangay Ginebra in overtime Friday in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.
Paul Zamar capped his career night by burying the dagger three to the heart of Barangay Ginebra with 44.1 seconds left in the extra five minutes to help Blackwater preserve its unbeaten slate.
The Elite captured their fourth straight win in as many outings with a huge 124-118 overtime win over erstwhile unbeaten but limping defending champion Gin Kings in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome Friday night.
Protecting a 119-116 lead in the closing minute of the extension, John Pinto whipped a pass to an open Zamar at the left corner for the trey.
Justin Brownlee answered with a slam dunk but JP Erram scored on an inside basket with 33 seconds left to finish off the Gin Kings, who played without injured Japeth Aguilar, Greg Slaughter, Sol Mercado and Jervy Cruz.
“It’s a miracle. For me it’s a miracle getting 4-0 and playing against Ginebra. I know Japeth is not there, Slaughter is not there but still they are a very strong team,” said Blackwater coach Bong Ramos, whose squad moved up at solo lead while handing Ginebra its first loss in four games.
Henry Walker led Blackwater with 39 points, nine assists and seven rebounds while Zamar registered a career-high 17 points on 5-of-9 field goal shooting including three from behind the rainbow arc. Pinto had 15 points and seven assists, Mac Belo finished with 15 while Erram scored 13 and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Elite's best franchise start.
Brownlee pushed Ginebra’s lead to 107-103 with 1:37 left in regulation. Blackwater tied it at 107 on a Michael Digregorio basket under a minute remaining.
LA Tenorio drilled a triple to put the Gin Kings back on top but Digregorio answered with his own version of a downtown dagger with 7.5 ticks left to knot the game.
Brownlee was able to let fly a floater but his shot bounced off the rim as time expired.
Brownlee finished with 41 points, Tenorio had 17 markers while Aljon Mariano and Jeff Chan got 16 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Gin Kings.
