PBA: Lassiter finds shooting rhythm in SMB return

I just got a good rhythm going. My teammates are actually finding me the ball -- Marcio Lassiter
Marcio Lassiter finally got his rhythm back after a woeful shooting performance while playing for the national team.
Back in a San Miguel Beer uniform, the guard joined Arwind Santos as the Beermen made it pour from downtown on a rainy Friday night.
Santos and Lassiter were lights out from behind the rainbow arc as the Beermen torched Columbian Dyip with 23 three-pointers in a lopsided 143-119 win in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome.
Lassiter delivered six of SMB’s PBA all-time record tying 23 triples. Santos sank seven.
“I just got a good rhythm going. My teammates are actually finding me the ball,” said Lassiter, who finished with 28 points on 10-of-17 field goal shooting and dished out seven assists. “My teammates actually looked for me to get me going. I’m happy having a good rhythm and make shots.”
It was the kind of shooting that was obviously missing in Lassiter’s tour of duty.
He fired blanks on 1-of-9 shooting in Team Pilipinas’ 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers loss to Iran last week and just five points in the Filipinos’ closed-door home win over Qatar.
“I think, it’s different style of play we have. I’m on a team I’ve been with for quite some time. I got a pass-first point guard. He’s always looking for our shooters,” said Lassiter, who was part of the first Gilas Pilipinas program. “And just the chemistry is always something I’m more familiar with. Given that we didn’t had that much time to prepare ourselves in FIBA, that was kind of hard. It’s totally different from I’m playing in.”
“The shots that I took were, you know, you’re not gonna get the same looks as I get here,” he added.
But despite his awful shooting with Team Pilipinas, Lassiter felt satisfied with his performance for the tricolor.
“I’m still overall satisfied with the effort I gave coz I gave more than 101%,” he said. “My defense was probably the best defense I’ve played. And I know I’m capable of playing defense like that.”
