PBA: Fuel Masters take third straight win

Phoenix downed Magnolia for its third straight win in the 2018 PBA Governorsí Cup.
Phoenix held Magnolia scoreless in five minutes and created enough cushion to secure its third straight win, 95-82, Sunday in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome.
Protecting a three-point lead with 10 minutes left in the game, the Fuel Masters scored seven straight points as the Hotshots suffered a dry spell to build a 10-point separation before holding on for their fifth win in six games.
Magnolia suffered its first loss in three outings.
“Finally we beat, ah for me one of the best kasi ‘yang Magnolia especially on defense. And were able to clamp down on their offensive guys especially in the third quarter,” said Phoenix coach Louie Alas, whose squad only trailed once at 2-0.
Eugene Phelps paced the Fuel Masters with 36 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks while Matthew Wright and Justin Chua added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Up, 75-72, Phoenix stringed seven straight points capped by a split from the foul line by Calvin Abueva with 5:33 left.
Aldrech Ramos broke Magnolia’s slump with a triple before the Fuel Masters answered with five straight points punctuated by a two-handed jam by Phelps for an 87-75 lead with 3:33 remaining.
Jason Perkins put the game away with a putback off an LA Revilla three-point miss for a 93-80 advantage with 42 ticks left.
Romeo Travis posted a double-double with 28 points and 19 rebounds while Rafi Reavis, Mark Barroca and Ian Sangalang finished with 11 markers each.
