The Road Warriors exploded for 35 points in the third period to take a lead as high as 24 and when the Elite tried to make their run in the fourth, NLEX was steady enough to handle its business and improve to 4-2 in the season-ending joust.

Blackwater's perfect start is no more.

NLEX welcomed back head coach Yeng Guiao and center Asi Taulava with a great performance to stop the previously-undefeated Elite in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup, scoring a 124-106 win Wednesday at the Big Dome.

The Road Warriors exploded for 35 points in the third period to take a lead as high as 24 and when the Elite tried to make their run in the fourth, NLEX was steady enough to handle its business and improve to 4-2 in the season-ending joust.

NLEX also became the first team to beat Blackwater this conference. The Elite dropped to 4-1 for the Governors' Cup.

Up by 10 in the third, the Road Warriors reeled off 13 straight points to break the game wide open. Larry Fonacier was spot-on in the second half, scoring 22 points, 11 each in the third and fourth quarters, to lead NLEX.

24 points is Fonacier's highest with NLEX and its his highest output in five years.

Import Aaron Fuller also scored 24 for the Road Warriors on top of 20 rebounds and four assists. Kevin Ighalo was good for 18 points.

"Matagal tagal kaming naghanda nung nakita naming this [Blackwater] team is really for real so we made sure we were prepared for this game," head coach Yeng Guiao said.

"I think this is an important game for us because we wanna stay in the fight for the top 4. We also want to build some momentum next game against Ginebra. so we need all the confidence that we can get," he added.

For the Elite, it was Roi Sumang that led the way with 24 points while Henry Walker and Paul Zamar added 16 points each.
