PBA: SMB bringing in new import with AZ Reid hurt
Reid has been dealing with a sprain for a couple of games now. In San Miguel's loss to Ginebra Sunday, the former Best Import struggled for only 13 points.

After an underwhelming 2-2 start and original import AZ Reid not exactly 100 percent healthy due to a sprain, San Miguel Beer is bringing in a new reinforcement just in case.

Head coach Leo Austria confirmed Wednesday that the Beermen have tapped the services of Kevin Murphy.

Murphy was drafted out of Tennessee Tech in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz six years ago and he's had multiple stints with the G-League and the CBA.

However, Austria says that San Miguel will look at Murphy in person first before making their decision regarding their import.

"Wala pa," Austria said on plans regarding actually replacing Reid.

"Once na nakita na namin [Murphy], pag nakita na namin laro [that's when we'll decide]. But based on what we've seen sa videos, he's okay. He will practice with us tomorrow," he added.

Reid has been dealing with a sprain for a couple of games now. In San Miguel's loss to Ginebra Sunday, the former Best Import struggled for only 13 points.

Austria says that SMB bringing in Murphy is for backup just in case AZ can't perform at peak condition moving forward.

"Kita niyo naman last game namin nagli-limp siya," Austria said of Reid.

"AZ is always in practice, kaya lang di pa niya matakbo dahil may tenderness sa ankle niya, ayaw namin ma-aggravate. I told him na you're still my import and dapat keep on working pa siya, magpa-kundisyon kasi you never know what will happen," he added.
