PBA: Ginebra regains first place after tough win vs. PHX
Ginebra regained first place in the Governors' Cup with a 5-1 record while Phoenix dropped to 5-2.

Barangay Ginebra narrowly escapes Phoenix in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.

The two-time defending champion Gin Kings relied on superior composure to cool down the Fuel Masters, 101-99, Saturday at Cagayan de Oro City.

In a true battle, Ginebra almost blew a late four-point lead as Matthew Wright hit a booming triple to cut Phoenix's deficit, 99-100.

Fortunately for the champs, Wright lost the ball in Phoenix's final possession and the Gin Kings walked away with the victory.

Ginebra regained first place in the Governors' Cup with a 5-1 record while Phoenix dropped to 5-2.

Super import Justin Brownlee continues to star for the Gin Kings, scoring 34 points on top of 15 rebounds and six assists.

Three locals finished in double figures to support Brownlee with Joe Devance firing 15 points.

For the Fuel Masters, it was the Big 3 of Matthew Wright, Calvin Abueva and import Eugene Phelps that came through.

Wright scored 27 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from deep while Phelps added 23. Abueva finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Ginebra 101 - Brownlee 34, Devance 15, Thompson 12, Tenorio 10, Caperal 8, Ferrer 8, Mariano 6, Caguioa 4, Chan 4. 

Phoenix 99 - Wright 27, Phelps 23, Abueva 17, Perkins 13, Jazul 6, Chua 5, Intal 4, Wilson 2, Alolino 2, Revilla 0.

Quarters: 19-22, 49-52, 78-72, 101-99.
