"Dito ako lumaki sa Araneta, yun mga tao nakita nila akong lumaki dito so I wanted to make it special na dito ko na rin tapusin yung 10k sa Araneta," --- Mark Caguioa.
Multiple championships and an MVP award, Mark Caguioa has had a great PBA career for Barangay Ginebra.
Now, the Spark has added another milestone to his list, becoming only the 15th local player in league history to score at least 10,000 career points.
Caguioa achieved the feat Friday in the 2018 Governors' Cup, scoring 16 points in the win over NLEX, giving him exactly 10k for his career.
"Just thankful na I reached that, di ko naman siya hinihintay," Caguioa said.
"But to join the other locals na nakagawa nun, it's an honor to be next to those guys. And to do it for one team, nagpapa-salamat ako," he added.
The Spark revealed that he would have been fine if he reached the milestone Sunday against Meralco in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
If he scored eight points against NLEX and another eight vs. the Bolts, he would have been okay with it.
However, the fact that he achieved 10k at the Big Dome makes it special and Caguioa will gladly take the added history to his milestone with the choice of venue.
"I started most of my games dito sa Araneta, naisip ko kung sa Sunday ko ba gagawin – sa Sta. Rosa – medyo di ako sanay eh," Caguioa said.
"Dito ako lumaki sa Araneta, yun mga tao nakita nila akong lumaki dito so I wanted to make it special na dito ko na rin tapusin yung 10k sa Araneta," he added.
After this individual milestone, Caguioa is just looking forward to more team awards to finish off his career.
"Wala na. Ang hinahanap ko lang is more championships before I retire. Sana mga sunod-sunod na championships, makatulong ako sa team na manalo pa ng championships," Caguioa said.
