ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Head coach Pido Jarencio can finally flash his signature smile.
Because why not? His Northport Batang Pier finally won in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Sure, it took them seven games to do it but it’s better late than never according to Jarencio.
Plus, it’s not like his team played terrible over the course of the Governors’ Cup so far. The Batang Pier just didn’t get any breaks for six games.
Saturday against Columbian, they finally got those breaks. The result was a 17-point victory.
“It’s about time na yung breaks of the game mapunta naman samin,” Jarencio said.
“Sabi ko nga sa team, tignan lang natin yung positives,” he added.
With this breakthrough win, Jarencio is not giving up for the Governors’ Cup just yet.
With four more games to go, Northport is looking to make a run.
“At least naka-panalo na. Four to go, tignan natin kung saan tayo mapupunta,” Jarencio said.
“Kung papasok? Okay. Kung may playoff, okay. Kung wala naman, mag-plano na lang ng panibago for next season,” he added.
