Northport earns first win after taking down Columbian.
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Only one team had to remain winless Saturday.
It was not Northport.
The Batang Pier finally scored a win in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup, beating Columbian, 118-101, at the Ynares Center here.
Northport is finally on the board with a 1-6 mark while the Dyip are now down to 0-8 in the standings.
"Law of averages. Six straight loss tapos yung tatlo dun almost kaya siguro it's about time na yung breaks of the game mapunta naman sa amin which is ngayong game," head coach Pido Jarencio said.
"Ano lang sabi ko lang sa team is tignan na lang natin yung mga positives. We almost won against Talk N Text tapos against Blckwater breaks of the game din, they're making their shots tas kami were not making our shots puros turnovers. Ngayon naman we were making our shots kay Sean Anthony, kay Stanley Pringle ano. Even yung sa mga ibang players they did their share," he added.
Engaged in a tight contest, the Batang Pier pulled away late in the fourth to finally break through in the Governors' Cup.
Stanley Pringle and Mo Tautuaa scored 26 points apiece to lead Northport with Pringle adding seven assists and Tautuaa grabbing another 10 boards for himself. Sean Anthony also fired 25 points for good measure.
For the Dyip, it was Jerramy King that led the way with 29 points but it came in another losing effort. Columbian is running out of time fast this conference, the franchise has failed to win a game in the Governors' Cup since 2016.
