The Gin Kings keep solo first in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup with a 6-1 record.
Just too much firepower in this Ginebra team.
The two-time defending champion Gin Kings overwhelmed NLEX Friday in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup, taking a 106-92 win at the Big Dome.
Engaged in a close contest at the break, Ginebra dropped 40 points in the third period, breaking the game wide open.
The Gin Kings landed the finishing blow early in the fourth and the champs improved to 6-1 in the standings solo first.
"At halftime we kind of scratching our head, we couldn’t put our fingers to really what we’re doing. It just seemed like we weren’t playing great, we weren’t playing badly. We’re just kind of in between," head coach Tim Cone said.
"We just kind of turned it on finally in the third quarter and then finally things just started to click. Defense started working and we started hitting shots. We’re really happy to get this one by us," he added.
Super import Justin Brownlee scored 26 points to lead the Gin Kings in scoring. LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar added 17 points each.
Mark Caguioa finished with 16 points, giving him exactly 10,000 for his career. He got the milestone after a 15-foot jumper with 1:10 to go in the game. The Spark is the 15th local in PBA history to achieve 10k and he's one of only two active players after James Yap.
The Road Warriors dropped to 4-3 with the loss. Larry Fonacier led NLEC with 21 points.
