PBA: Gin Kings keep power shut at Meralco
Pulling away in the fourth period, Ginebra improved to a league-best 7-1 in the standings.

STA. ROSA, Laguna --- The Gin Kings take the latest round of Ginebra-Meralco showdown in the PBA Governors' Cup.

Ginebra, the reigning two-time champions, frustrated rival Meralco Sunday at the City Multi-Purpose Center here, picking up a 111-105 decision.

Pulling away in the fourth period, Ginebra improved to a league-best 7-1 in the standings.

Down late in the third, the Gin Kings used a flurry from Justin Brownlee to quickly turn the table and take a 75-72 lead entering the fourth. That run was part of a 15-0 bomb that extended to the start of the final period.

The Gin Kings ended up leading by as many as 14, 102-88, which they ended up needing as the Bolts tried to steal the win away in the final minute and change.

Super import Justin Brownlee and Japeth Aguilar each scored 31 points to lead Ginebra while LA Tenorio added 18 points.

The Bolts dropped a fifth straight game for a 1-5 record.

Reigning two-time Best Import dropped 36 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists. Chris Newsome was Meralco's top local with 25 points on top of six rebounds and eight assists.

Meralco 105 - Durham 36, Newsome 25, Canaleta 11, Salva 11, Hodge 10, Amer 6, Caram 2, Hugnatan 2, Bono 2, Lanete 0, Jamito 0, Tolomia 0. 


Quarters: 23-24, 46-48, 75-72, 111-105.
