PBA: El Destructor wants to win Best Import
Phelps has the numbers obviously, he's a walking 30 and 15 every game. This conference, he's averaging about 32 points and 17 rebounds per outing.

Aside from Justin Brownlee and Allen Durham, Eugene Phelps is without a doubt one of the best imports to play in the PBA for the last couple of seasons.

But while Phelps can match, or even surpass, the numbers of Brownlee and Durham, what he lacks is team wins.

He and the Phoenix Fuel Masters have just failed to get anything going since the 2016 Governors' Cup due the a variety of factors.

However, 2018 has been different for El Destructor and Phoenix.

Following his latest 50-point game, Phelps and the Fuel Masters are now 6-2 in the ongoing Governors' Cup and they're making a heavy push towards earning that twice-to-beat edge in the playoffs.

They're obviously gunning for the title this season but the main priority for now and advancing past the first round to make the semifinals.

"Obviously the championship is the main goal but semifinals ain't too bad," Phelps said after scoring 51 points Wednesday in the win against NLEX.

"So that's the goal. Top-4 at least. And then you never know, once you get to the top-4, you can probably make it to the championship. Once we get there, anything is possible. But I'm just gonna keep on working hard and see how it goes," he added.

Another motivation for Phelps to make the PBA semifinals for the first time is that it gives him a chance to win Best Import.

Phelps has the numbers obviously, he's a walking 30 and 15 every game. This conference, he's averaging about 32 points and 17 rebounds per outing.

If he can carry the Fuel Masters to the semifinals for the first time in franchise history, that coveted Best Import award is certainly within reach.

"Honestly I'm trying to win import of the year you know," Phelps said.

"And I understand that to get that, you gotta at least get to the semifinals," he added.
