PBA: Austria defends Beermen after scuffle:
Murphy put Abueva in a headlock and both players crashed to the floor. Chaos ensued afterwards as both benches tried to separate the two.

Things got heated late in the fourth quarter of the San Miguel-Phoenix match in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.

With less than five minutes to go, a scuffle was triggered after San Miguel import Kevin Murphy and Phoenix forward Calvin Abueva got entangled during a Fuel Masters possession.

Murphy put Abueva in a headlock and both players crashed to the floor. Chaos ensued afterwards as both benches tried to separate the two.

Things didn't end there as Phoenix head coach Louie Alas had some choice words over at the San Miguel bench.

As the dust settled, Murphy ended up with a flagrant foul penalty one and Phoenix got three technical fouls, one each for Alas, center Doug Kramer, and team manager Paolo Bugia all for entering the playing court.

San Miguel head coach Leo Austria downplayed the incident post-game, saying his Beermen would go after fights on their own.

"Syempre naghahanap na lang ng damay yun eh," Austria said.

"Kilala niyo naman team namin, mababait yan. Nobody will provoke," he added.

Austria argued that Phoenix should have been called for more than three technical fouls but the champion mentor simply just brushed the incident off.

They won the game anyway.

"Ang daming pumasok sa kanila, tatlo lang tinawagan ng technical eh," Austria.

"Di tinawagan but that's part of the game. Ang pinaka-maganda dun, nanalo kami," he added.
