PBA: Murphy on Calvin incident: "I didn't choke him"

PBA: Murphy on Calvin incident:
"I mean, it was really just trying to hold him up. It just so happened that my arm was around his neck," Murphy said.

The end of the San Miguel-Phoenix game Friday was marred by a scuffle.

Things started when San Miguel import Kevin Murphy and Phoenix forward Calvin Abueva got entangled on a Fuel Masters possession.

As both players crashed to the floor, it appeared that Murphy put Abueva on a headlock, prompting a near bench-clearing affair to try and separate the two.

Murphy says he didn't choke Calvin, though he did get a flagrant foul penalty 1 for it.

"I mean, it was really just trying to hold him up. It just so happened that my arm was around his neck," Murphy said.

"But I didn't choke him, I was just holding him. He just kept pushing me back. So, I mean, I'm not a dirty player, you know what I mean, so it is what it is," he added.

It was a physical game throughout and Murphy says he's fine with the bumps that come in a regular game.

However, the high-scoring San Miguel import has no business with dirty plays.

"I expected it to be physical but my thing is if you play physical, that's cool, but don't do cheap shots," he said.

"I'm okay with playing physical, playing hard to compete but my thing is, if you hit me with cheap shots the whole game and the ref just letting it go and stuff like that. I mean, I can play through that but it don't mean that I like it so that's how it was," Murphy added.
