Coach Yeng Guiao admitted that he sorely misses the playmaking abilities of Kevin Alas and Kiefer Ravena, as no playmaker stepped up in the NLEX Road Warriors' 106-103 loss against Meralco at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Sunday evening.
Alas is still recovering from a devastating ACL injury he suffered last March in their Philippine Cup playoff run, while Ravena is serving his FIBA suspension until Aug. 24, 2019 for unknowingly taking a banned substance.
The now 4-5 Road Warriors actually led by 16, 82-66, in the opening moments of the fourth quarter before Meralco took advantage of numerous foul calls and slowly clawed their way back.
It was Baser Amer, who scored 17 markers in the final chapter alone who swished the go-ahead basket and gave the Bolts a much-needed come-from-behind win.
"It's a bad loss. It's not that they won the game. We lost it. Just too many turnovers in a short period of time. Specially happening in the end game. Turnovers and I felt the bad calls conspired to turn a win into a loss," Guiao shared after the game.
The mentor did take blame for the loss, and lamented a lack of a playmaker that could have steadied the ship and helped weather the run.
"If we had Kevin or Kiefer in this game, we would have won comfortably. But mahirap kasing mag-isip ng isang bagay na hindi naman pwedeng mangyari sa ngayon. We missed them but we know that's not going to happen soon so we just have to live with what we have."
Guiao, also a seasoned member of the political sphere, confirmed the filing of his Certificate of Candidacy for the 1st District of Pampanga, as he attempts to reclaim the seat he lost in the 2016 National Elections.
"Wala na, wala na[ng atrasan]. Marami nang nakasubo doon e."
