Rain or Shine's uphill climb to the playoffs just got a lot tougher as they were dealt another loss by the similarly struggling Meralco Bolts.
Things were going well for the Elasto Painters before a proverbial lid had seemingly been placed on their basket, failing to hit shot after shot in crunch time.
Coach Caloy Garcia pointed out that very reason for their 91-82 loss against the two-time finalists, as they fell further away from a playoff berth with a 2-6 record.
"We couldn't buy a basket. Jewel [Ponferrada] had two lay-ups na point-blank, he missed. Norbert [Torres] missed one. Then we had wide-open three-point shots that we couldn't convert. Basically, Meralco hit the big shots in the end and we couldn't hit our shots," Garcia said after the game.
The team will also have to deal with a thinner front court as Beau Belga will be out for the next two weeks, essentially the remainder of the eliminations, as he recovers from plantar faciitis in his left foot.
Belga's injury piles up on their big man woes, as Raymond Almazan has still not reported to the team.
Despite the loss, their previous upset loss against the Columbian Dyip last Friday in Antipolo was never a factor, and the mentor even pointed out that they played better Sunday evening.
Still on the hunt for a playoff spot, Garcia sees the need to not look ahead beyond the next game.
"We have to try and beat Phoenix first [on Wednesday]. If we can beat Phoenix, at least we have to win one more game to at least try for playoff ata yun."
