PBA: Phoenix nears 2x-to-beat after comeback win over ROS
The victory allowed the Fuel Masters to inch closer to that coveted twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals. With four playoff bonuses at stake and five teams battling, eight wins is currently the magic number.

Big character win for Phoenix.

The Fuel Masters recovered from a 16-point deficit to stun Rain or Shine Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome, picking up a crucial 103-97 decision in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup.

Phoenix clamped down on defense in the fourth period to complete the comeback against the Elasto Painters, improving to 7-3 for the season-ending conference.

The victory allowed the Fuel Masters to inch closer to that coveted twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals.

With four playoff bonuses at stake and five teams battling, eight wins is currently the magic number.

Despite the win though, head coach Louie Alas is not exactly pleased with the way his players performed.

"Tinalo namin kasi depleted to, kung kumpleto sila I'm sure talo kami," he said.

"Nanalo kami, masaya. Pero on the other side, it's an ugly win," Alas added.

Phoenix gave up 34 points and sleepwalked through the start of the third as the Elasto Painters put up a 71-55 lead.

The Fuel Masters finally woke up to start the fourth as an 8-0 run cut the deficit to four, 80-84. From then on, Phoenix slowly chipped away and used a strong finish to ice the win.

Six players scored in double figures for Phoenix led by Eugene Phelps and Calvin Abueva with 18 points each. Matthew Wright added another 17 while LA Revilla ran the point and scored 13 markers.

For ROS, losers of three straight games for a 2-7 mark, Chris Tiu fired a career-high 24 points.
