PBA: After 2x-to-beat, Hotshots will go after no. 1 next
The team's 8-2 record is good for solo first place for the moment but with Manila Clasico coming right up, the Hotshots want to be no. 1 for good heading into the playoffs.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- Mission accomplished for Magnolia.

Well... part of the mission that is.

The Hotshots were the first to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup after beating TNT Friday at the Ynares Center here.

However, Magnolia wants more.

The team's 8-2 record is good for solo first place for the moment but with Manila Clasico coming right up, the Hotshots want to be no. 1 for good heading into the playoffs.

"Yes," head coach Chito Victolero said without hesitation when asked if the team is going after no. 1.

"Yun naman yung goal eh. As long as may chance kami, we will go for it. Kailangan lang namin paghandaan ng mabuti, medyo mahirap lang ngayon kasi one [day] preparation lang kami against Ginebra," he added.

After winning over the KaTropa Friday, the Hotshots draw the two-time champion Gin Kings in the main game Sunday.

Still, that's no excuse says Victolero.

"Lagi kong sinasabi sa mga players ko, even one day preparation o walang preparation, we need to play hard," he said.

"That's our commitment to the management and to the fans," Victolero added.

Magnolia certainly fulfilled one commitment after clinching a playoff bonus. That's not enough though.

"We will not stop here," Victolero said after being the first team to clinch a top-4 spot.

"Kailangan lang namin magre-focus kasi hindi naman kailangan pabayaan yung game [vs. Ginebra]," he added.
