PBA: Columbian has eye on a big man in upcoming Draft
Unsurprisingly, the Dyip are set to pick first in the upcoming 2018 PBA Draft set for next month. Columbian finished with a 1-10 conference record twice this season.

BINAN, Laguna --- Another disappointing season has ended for Columbian.

After taking a 120-99 beating at the hands of Blackwater Saturday at the Alonte Sports Arena here, the Dyip will finish the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup with a 1-10 record.

It's the second time this season that Columbian finished 1-10 in a conference.

Unsurprisingly, the Dyip are set to pick first in the upcoming 2018 PBA Draft set for next month. The team has their eye on a big man.

"Number one pick kami di ba? Tapos tinitignan namin big man kasi wala kami," head coach Johnedel Cardel.

Reminded of the fact that this year's selection is short on some marquee big men, it appears that Columbian will go the unconventional route again.

"Mayroon naman na mga hindi kilala, nakikita ko naman sa ibang mga liga like NAASCU," Cardel said.

"Nakikita ko sila, hopefully makaabot sa akin. Secret yun, ayoko sabihin [who]. Sana makakilala kami, kahit hindi kilala. Malaking maitutulong sa gitna. Marami namang underrated player dyan na kapag naglaro sa PBA diba? Hopefully makatsamba kami," he added.

Columbian's search for a big man could happen late in the first round as the team owns San Miguel's pick.

Although it's simply ironic that the Dyip will search for a big man now when they had the chance to take Christian Standhardinger first overall in 2017.

As for its top selection this year, the Dyip will have the luxury to choose among CJ Perez, Babes Bolick, and Ray Parks. The three are the consensus top-3 picks for 2018.

"Meron na akong choice," Cardel said regarding the three.

"Depends na lang sa boss namin, after one week mag-uusap kami kung sino makukuha na top pick. Kinakailangan wag masayang para walang magulo sa team namin. Kailangan namin energy guy eh," he added.
