"Kasi Ginebra pag kalaban mo talagang pahirapan. Mate-test namin yung character namin kung hanggang saan kami," --- Ian Sangalang.
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- Looks like the flat performance in the Commissioner's Cup was only a fluke for Magnolia.
The Hotshots are back to peak form in the Governors' Cup, taking over solo first place in the season-ending joust after pounding on the TNT KaTropa Friday at the Ynares Center here.
Magnolia's 8-2 record also allowed the team to be te first to clinch a twice-to-beat edge come the quarterfinals.
Forward Ian Sangalang, who took a major leap to stardom in the All-Filipino, has rediscovered his touch in the Governors' Cup.
Against the KaTropa, Sangalang went for 28 points, one shy of his career-high he set in the Philippine Cup Finals.
"Binigay lang namin yung best namin kasi kailangan namin manalo," he said.
"Pag natalo kami malalagay kam isa pangit na situation. Hindi na kami magbe-base sa kung anong mangyayari sa ibang teams, hinandle na namin yung trabaho namin kasi gusto namin manalo," he added.
After a big game for himself and for the team as a whole, the Hotshots now turn their focus to their regular season finale against bitter rival Brgy. Ginebra.
Sangalang says that Manila Clasico will be a great test to see where Magnolia actually is and if they're ready for a deep playoff run.
"Sa game na yun namin [mate-test] yung bawat isa samin kasi Ginebra pag kalaban mo talagang pahirapan," he said.
"Mate-test namin yung character namin kung hanggang saan kami," Sangalang added.
