PBA: Slaughter makes timely return for 3-peat seeking Kings

After once again dealing with the ankle injury that bothered him from the Philippine Cup, Greg Slaughter made his latest return for Brgy. Ginebra just in time before the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup playoffs.

Slaughter rejoined the Gin Kings Sunday and helped the reigning two-time champions beat Magnolia in Manila Clasico.

The victory allowed Ginebra to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals with one game to spare.

"Happy you know, I'm glad we got the win. I think this guarantees us top-4 and that was our goal," Slaughter said.

"It's good to get it and now we got another week and another game before the playoffs so I'm thankful for that too to try and find more rhythm with my team," he added.

Slaughter injured his left ankle in early September against Northport during Ginebra's third game of the conference.

It's the same ankle that caused him to miss Ginebra's Philippine Cup playoff run and it caused him to miss a huge chunk of the Governors' Cup plust his maiden stint with Gilas Pilipinas.

Fortunately, after almost two months of recovery, Slaughter is back to near peak form.

"I feel good. I feel like I can get better too so I'll just take it one game at a time, keep our goal in mind. We want to win this championship," he said.

With the Gin Kings rolling through the season-ending conference, Greg was able to focus on his recovery and not rush to make his return.

In his first game back, he ended up scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds in 20 minutes of play.

"Fortunately we've been able to take care of business with me and Sol's absence and we were able to get good seeding," Slaughter said.

"I didn't have to hurry back and spent a little time getting my body stronger," he added.
